Description
Position DescriptionPerforms of a variety of technical, administrative, and supervisory work in planning, organizing, directing and implementing the functions of the Rolling Meadows Golf Course. Responsible for planning, implementing and supervising all training and safety activities of the Golf Course. Performs a variety of supervisory, skilled tasks involved in the operation and management of the golf course.
Examples of Duties
Primary Goals & Objectives -
Directly supervises golf course grounds keeping staff, Clubhouse Manager; volunteers, community service workers, interns, and temporary employees as required and assigned. Indirectly supervises Administrative Assistant, Pro Shop Clerks, Cart Attendants, and Golf Marshals.
Major Areas of Responsibility
- Manages and supervises golf course maintenance operations to achieve goals within available resources;
Plans and organizes workloads and staff assignments; Issues written and oral instructions; assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
Trains, motivates and evaluates staff; reviews progress and directs changes as needed.
Assures that assigned areas of responsibility are preformed within budget; performs cost control activities; monitors revenues and expenditures in assigned area to assure sound fiscal control; prepares annual budget requests; assures effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, material, facilities, and time.
Provides advice to supervisors, makes presentations to supervisors, boards, commissions, civic groups, golf advisory board, and the general public.
Coordinates department activities with other departments as needed.
Provides leadership and direction in the development of short- and long-range goals; gathers, interprets, and prepares data for studies, reports and recommendations.
Communicates official plans, policies and procedures to management and the general public.
Determines work procedures and expedites workflow; studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
Interviews, hires, trains, direct and supervise the staff of employees used to operate the division.
Prepares a variety of studies, reports and related information for decision-making purposes.
Coordinates maintenance and construction activities with Clubhouse Manager to assure continual smooth operation of the golf course.
Develops golf course maintenance operating procedures and methods within limits of departmental policies and procedures.
Determines, calculates and secures the appropriate materials and supplies for specific projects.
Inspects golf course and improvement services provided by contractors or vendors for compliance with performance standards.
Assures that turf equipment and golf cart fleet equipment are properly maintained and kept in proper working condition.
Responds to public inquiries; provides information to various agencies.
Oversees maintenance of all golf course operations.
Typical Qualifications
Education / Experience / Requirements
Two (minimum) or four-year (preferred) Turfgrass degree. Advanced knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass management practices; working knowledge of golf facility construction principles, practices and methods; and a thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf.
At least one two (2) years of relevant experience; five (5) years' experience preferred.
GCSAA Class B or higher certification or the ability to obtain one.
A valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one.
A valid Commercial Pesticide Applicator's certification or the ability to obtain one.
Class B member of Golf Course Superintendents Association of America or the ability to obtain one.
Any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Commercial Driver's License (preferred)
Requires excellent oral and written communication skills.
Requires knowledge of current federal, state and local laws and regulations affecting the management of the golf facility (including, but not limited to, employment, safety and environmental standards, laws and regulations.)
Requires participation in continuing education opportunities such as seminars, workshops, correspondence courses, field days and trade shows.
Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities, communicate effectively, use resources properly, and establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, co-workers and the public.
