The Shelton School is a co-educational, non-sectarian school that serves approximately 900 students with learning differences in grades EC to 12. Qualifications & Skills : Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field preferred. Honorably retired Texas Peace Officer preferred. Minimum of ten years total police service, including Military and DOD, and authorized to carry under HR 218 / Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act Required. Extensive knowledge of police work, including deescalation, crisis intervention or crisis negotiations. Experience working in an educational environment, preferably a K-12 school. Ability to work occasional prolonged and irregular hours and available as needed in a 24 hour operation. Ability to manage, supervise, and evaluate all safety and security related functions. Effective interpersonal skills; specifically for addressing potential conflicts and deescalating potential threats. Requires valid state driver license. Ability to take charge while responding professionally and calmly in emergency situations. Ability to analyze security and safety risks and make appropriate recommendations within a school setting. Effective communication skills to express ideas clearly and concisely in written and oral form and effectively communicate with all constituents in a school environment. Ability to work effectively with employees, students, parents, school administration and local law enforcement representatives. Ability to manage multiple functions, activities, and projects; prioritize duties to ensure timely completion. Experience w ith Google Suite & drive. Assists in the creation of an environment that aligns best safety and security practices with constituent advocacy. Ensures the campus and surrounding areas are safe for students, faculty, staff, visitors, parents, and alumni. Provides support with implementing and designing all campus safety and security policies and procedures Serves as a member of the Emergency Management Team Coordinates emergency drills, lockdown and evaluation procedures as well as reunification plans. Assist in managing the Police and Security Teams to ensure the effective and continuous oversight of 24-hour safety and security of the campus. Coordination of shifts for all Security Guards and Police. Works traffic control during carpool, special events, and other times as needed. Conducts periodic campus walk-throughs. Ensures campus safety equipment is appropriate, up to date, and functional. In the Director's absence Investigates and reports incidents on campus to administration and provides support as needed to Human Resources with personnel related investigations and terminations. Monitors departmental radio, CCTV, fire and RFID systems. Manages staff, volunteer and temporary badge activation / deactivation and distribution. Assigned other safety and security functions a s needed. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
