Position Summary
The Director of Development and Operations at JA is a senior leadership role, responsible for leading and supporting fundraising efforts to secure financial resources from individual donors, corporate partners, and foundations as well as managing the education team. This role will be pivotal in donor cultivation, event planning, and strategic partnerships to support JA’s mission of empowering young people. This role is essential for advancing JA’s strategic growth and community impact.
Essential Functions
- Executes fundraising strategies to secure financial support for Junior Achievement programs.
- Supports donor relationships by assisting in communications, recognizing contributions, and ensuring timely donor acknowledgments.
- Ensure records are accurately maintained of donor information, gifts, and interactions in the donor management system, ensuring data integrity and compliance with reporting requirements.
- Leads the planning and executing of fundraising events, supervising vendors, coordinating logistics, and supporting their success.
- Leads team members and supervises vendors to create donor communications, promotional materials, and social media content that engages donors and the community.
- Leads the efforts to research prospective donors and funding opportunities to expand the donor base and diversify funding sources.
- Collaborate with local businesses and organizations to explore partnership opportunities, sponsorships, and in-kind donations.
- Represent the organization at community events and donor presentations.
- Cultivate, solicit and steward donors in advancement of the organization’s mission
- Ensure there is a process in engaging and recognizing volunteers.
- Stay updated on best practices in fundraising and development, seeking opportunities for professional growth and networking within the field.
- Manage the education team to meet strategic goals.
- Supervise the Operations Manager.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum Years of Experience: five years of relevant experience in not-for-profit fundraising, development, or related fields.
- An understanding of various fundraising techniques, including individual giving and event planning.
- Knowledge of best practices in donor and volunteer engagement and communication.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain relationships to effectively convey the mission and impact of Junior Achievement to stakeholders.
- An understanding of donor management and prospect research software.
- Demonstrated knowledge of donor development cycle.
- A bachelor's degree in a related field, such as nonprofit management, business or public administration marketing, communications, or business, is typically required for this role.
- Proficient in the Microsoft Suite including Teams.
- Demonstrate the ability to evaluate donor data to make decisions on fundraising strategy and tactics.
- Report to the CEO on programming and development performance and results to meet JA USA standards and strategic plan.
- An understanding of program data collection and outcomes measurement.
