Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent. College level course work preferred
Experience / Qualifications: Three-five years of professional business office experience that includes Collections. Computer proficiency required. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, managed care contracts, other government payers, and commercial insurance plans. Must have demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment toward a designated goal, in an efficient/effective manner with minimal supervision. Requires knowledge of industry language, good computer skills with proficiency in windows applications and software (word and excel). Involves daily contact with insurance companies and/or patients, by writing, telephone, via computer programs and/or in person within an office environment. Must possess heighten degree of attention to detail and ability to multitask within a fast-paced result orientated environment.
Mathematical ability and analytical skills required. Knowledge of Government and Third-Party Payer Regulations and Standards. Working knowledge of eClinicalworks application.
Position Summary
The Patient Accounts Collections Specialist ensures the coordination of collection activities for designated accounts, leading to the timely reimbursement of receivables using available resources including internal/external databases, payer portals/websites, and telephone. Determines and initiates appropriate action to resolve denied/rejected invoices and prepares payer corrections and/or appeals in accordance with payer plan requirements using electronic and paper processes. Keeps Collection Lead, and/or PFS Manager informed of any potential trending negative account(s) impact. Participate in testing scenarios for various system upgrades and/or new system implementations when necessary.
Knowledge of CMS 1500 guidelines, revenue code usage, contractual adjustments, payment transactions, and credit balance resolution. Able to train and assist other Collection Patient Account Specialist(s). Strong ability to troubleshoot and problem solve. Maintain positive relationship with the other hospital departments. Performs other duties as assigned.

Annual Joint Commission mandatory education requirements, in-service and health requirements including attendance at new employee orientation. TB/PPD Surveillance Program. Maintenance of required professional licensing and/or certification(s).
