What are the responsibilities and job description for the Process Technician (CRT Operator) position at K-Bin?
Primary Function:
The Process Technician is responsible for monitoring the safe and efficient operation of compounding PVC resin into customer specific batches. The role requires the ability to multi-task in monitoring overall plant production, troubleshoot disruptions, and provide direction to Contract partners.
Duties & Responsibilities:
This position may require any of the following functions:
- Assist in control room operations, pay attention to alarms, check for proper recipes and ingredients, preacts, tolerances, settings. Change lot numbers at the beginning of each run (verify with the lab). Monitor the control activities at all times. Make sure that all operators know the right ingredients and amount the material needed for each run. Monitor production rates.
- Maintain activities such as Pelletizing/Compounding startup/shutdown, maintaining the complete operation while running, clean downs, cleaning grade changes, logging data etc.
- Operates and maintains stationary equipment and mechanical equipment.
- Inspects each assigned process area for abnormal situations, takes corrective action, and reports incidents to management.
- Maintain a running record of occurrences on log sheets including down time and reasons.
- Produces a packaging yield report after each box run.
- Performs a documented shift relief.
- Maintains an adequate supply of materials.
- Perform a documented plant checks at least once a shift.
- K-Bin shall direct any contractors in a safe, professional and courteous manner.
- Collaborate with other departments such as maintenance, electrical and instrumentation departments as needed.
- Notify management of any problems, as they arise, usually the shift supervisor.
- Participates in safety toolbox meetings.
- Performs leak patrols and takes appropriate corrective action(s) in the event of a leak.
- Serves as fire watch on Hot Jobs if needed.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
A high school diploma or GED equivalent and a minimum of one (1) year of experience in a chemical manufacturing environment is required. An Associate’s Degree in Process Technology or related field may be substituted for experience requirement.
Job Qualifications:
- Ability to obtain and maintain a certificate of Basic Industrial Fire Fighting Skills annually and be an active member of the K-Bin/Shintech Fire Brigade
- Knowledge of and commitment to safe and environmentally conscious working practices, programs, regulations, etc.
- Ability to apply basic algebra to calculations of rates, ratios, and percentages
- Ability to evaluate situations and provide logical solutions
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills
- Willing and able to work all applicable shifts on a rotating basis (including weekends and holidays) and work overtime when needed.

Physical Requirements:
Candidate must be able to:
- Lift up-to 25lbs regularly and up-to 50 pounds frequently.
- Stand or walk for extended periods of time.
- Climb stairs/ladders and work at heights.
- Comply with respirator fit tests (where applicable).
- Bend, reach, and lift frequently.
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as respirators, earplugs, goggles, hard hat, and steel-toed boots.
Work Environment:
- PVC compounding facility, in presence of chemicals.
- Occasionally work in tight or closed-in spaces.
- Work outdoors, in sometimes inclement weather.
- Moderate noise-level and environmental vibration related to equipment.
