What are the responsibilities and job description for the Event Sommelier position at K&L Wine Merchants?
ABOUT US
K&L is excited to launch the K&L Sommelier Services program. This initiative brings K&L’s extensive selection of wine and spirits, along with our renowned customer service and deep wine knowledge, directly to clients through curated tasting events at corporate offices and private homes in the areas surrounding our four retail locations in San Francisco, Redwood City, Hollywood, and Culver City.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We are currently building a roster of experienced Event Sommeliers to host these tastings. Sommeliers will be contracted per event and compensated accordingly. While K&L will provide background information on the wines being poured, sommeliers are expected to leverage their industry experience and formal wine education to create engaging, informative presentations.
Who We’re Looking For:
- Experienced wine professionals with formal wine education (e.g., WSET, CMS, or equivalent experience)
- Strong public speaking and customer engagement skills
- Reliability and professionalism in representing K&L
- Flexible availability for events, including evenings and weekends
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide exceptional service at every event, every time
- Learn about the wines that will be presented and be able to speak on them with confidence. Information on each wine will be provided.
- Maintain a knowledge of the world’s top wine regions and be able to call on this knowledge to answer questions from event attendees.
- Show up to each assigned event in a timely and presentable manner.
REQUIREMENTS
- Court of Master Sommeliers (CMS), Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET), or Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) certification
- Experience working as a Sommelier, or equivalent wine industry experience
- Schedule = As needed, and as your work schedule permits.
- Passion and knowledge of wine required
- Excellent communicator who excels at presenting in front of groups
- Must have a working cell phone and reliable transportation
- Currently employed in the wine industry a plus
BENEFITS
- This is a 1099 contractor position. Contracted Sommeliers will have the ability to accept or decline events based on their schedule.
- Compensation = $70-$90/hr depending on experience, certification level, and event type.
