Your Role
- Meet with families to discuss and arrange funeral services tailored to their needs
- Coordinate and oversee all aspects of funeral services, including visitations, memorials, and burials
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to funeral services
- Prepare and file necessary paperwork, including death certificates and permits
- Maintain relationships with vendors, cemeteries, and other service providers
- Offer grief support resources and follow up with families as needed
- Perform embalming and preparation of remains, ensuring high standards of care
- Work independently while also contributing to a collaborative team environment
- Participate in community outreach and engagement to build relationships
Who You Are
- Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in the state of Michigan (or ability to obtain licensure)
- 1-2 years of experience in the funeral service industry (not accepting recent apprentices or those still in an apprenticeship)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a compassionate approach
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and empathy
- Knowledge of state and federal funeral service regulations
- Comfortable working with diverse cultural and religious traditions
- Proficient in funeral management software and administrative tasks
- Able to work well in a team-oriented environment while also functioning independently
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience as a Funeral Director beyond apprenticeship
- Background in grief counseling or bereavement support
- Familiarity with pre-planning and pre-need sales services
- Community involvement and networking experience
