Principal Duties and Responsibilities of an HR Generalist
Payroll
- Process bi-weekly disbursement of multi-state payroll
- Manage timecards, paid time off (PTO) tracking, and reporting
- Address payroll-related inquiries and discrepancies
Benefits Administration
- Processes all benefit enrollments (new hire, qualifying events and open enrollment), fields any benefit questions and resolves benefit related issues
- Act as the primary point of contact for benefits vendors
- Communicate benefits options, updates, and compliance requirements to employees
FMLA & Compliance Support
- Administers Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) requests and documentation
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and company policies, including I-9 processing and workers' compensation paperwork
- Orders and maintains required labor law posters
HR Systems & Personnel Records
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date personnel files and HRIS (Paycor) records
- Manages HRIS permissions, reporting, and document uploads
- Maintains job postings, firm policies and procedures documents.
- Processes employment verification requests
- Creates step-by-step process documentation for new processes or updating documentation for changes to processes
Recruiting & Onboarding Support
- Serve as a backup for recruiting efforts, including scheduling interviews and coordinating candidate communications
- Assist with onboarding tasks such as scheduling new hire orientations and setting up system access
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities of an HR Generalist:
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field preferred
- 4 years of HR experience, preferably in payroll, benefits administration
- Proficiency in HRIS and payroll systems; prior work in Paycor is a plus
- Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations; experience in multiple states a plus
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and confidentiality
- Efficient, organized, and able to work with minimal supervision and direction
- Strong communication skills, spoken, and written
- Successful team-orientation and collaboration behaviors
- Effective time management with multiple deadlines
Working relationships and scope of an HR Generalist:
- Reports to HR Manager
- Collaborates with other Operational Services team members
- Represents the firm in alignment with Kahler Slater's core values
