What a Typical Day Could Look Like
As a Development Accounting Specialist, you'll be instrumental in managing the financial operations of development projects. You'll ensure the accuracy of financial transactions and records, support detailed financial analysis, and assist in the preparation of key reports. Your expertise will contribute directly to the financial success of projects, ensuring timely and precise reporting while helping drive strategic decision-making and overall project efficiency.

- Take charge of accounts payable/receivable, expertly reviewing invoices, processing payments, and ensuring accounts are always accurate and up-to-date.
- Maintain flawless records for all development transactions—from contracts and change orders to lien waivers—keeping everything organized and fully compliant.
- Dive into financial reporting, preparing budgets, forecasts, and performance reports that provide powerful insights into project cash flow and profitability.
You are the Project Supporter!
- Keep a sharp eye on project costs, uncovering trends and variances to provide impactful recommendations that optimize spending and keep projects within budget.
- Assist in the setup and management of project accounting systems and databases, ensuring flawless data integrity and seamless tracking of every financial detail.
- Create clear and actionable financial reports, offering expert analysis and helping guide key decisions that ensure projects stay on track.

Key Skills and Abilities Needed to Succeed in This Role:
- Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 2 years progressive accounting/financial experience in construction/real estate development.
- Familiarity with accounting software and project management systems; experience with industry-specific platforms is highly desirable.
- Solid understanding of fundamental accounting principles and project accounting.
- Strong organizational, analytical, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills: manage tasks, prioritize, meet deadlines, and adapt to change.
- Impeccable attention to detail, accuracy, confidentiality, ethical standards, and professional conduct.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with skills specifically in Excel, for financial calculations.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and contribute effectively as a leader/team member: proactive, collaborative, and solutions-oriented.
- Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communication, and relationship-building skills.
