Are you an experienced IT technician? Are you near Grand Rapids? Are you organized and detail-oriented and comfortable talking with other humans? If so, I'd like to talk to you. We're Andy Kaiser and Roy Smith, the two owners at Kaiser IT Group.

What is the job?

Kaiser IT Group is an IT consultancy and MSP for roughly 65 businesses in and near Grand Rapids. Founded in 2015, we're looking to hire a new technician. This is a full-time job, and the pay is hourly. We're looking for experienced technicians.

What’s the extended detail?

You would be responsible for providing technical support to client systems, and work on longer-term projects. Vendors and buzzwords for the tech we use include cloud services (like Microsoft, Dropbox), networking (Cisco, MikroTik), infrastructure and virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V), OSes like Windows, ChromeOS, Macs, Linux. We also provide support to physical infrastructure, security systems, video systems, access control and more. As an MSP and IT consultancy, we use ConnectWise as our PSA.

The type of work assigned is highly variable. We do a lot of different things. Outside of the descriptions above, assume work on break-fix, change implementation, and up to more complicated project work. Experienced techs are welcome to contribute to project design. This is not a sales role. This is not an app / dev role.

This job comes with a high level of trust. You must have good personal and business ethics, as shown by your work results, your ability to work independently, and your interactions with others. We only employ trustworthy and responsible people, who are self-motivated, dependable, and have an engaging and friendly demeanor. You will be required to pass a background check, and references may be requested and called.

What are the working conditions?

In-office work and attendance is expected, but not all the time : Remote client work is common, and is done at our office or (once we have a good working relationship) a home office. You will need a car for your own transport to the office and clients, so you will need to be living in or near Grand Rapids. Office dress is to wear provided company shirts with jeans, or standard business casual is fine. You will later be expected to participate in the technician's 24x7 on-call schedule which at the time of this writing is one week on, three weeks off. When you are on-call, any on-call client requests pay a bonus of $30 / hour (this is on top of your usual pay).

Company does not provide insurance. Company does provide a Simple IRA with matching, and pays all mileage comp for all work-related travel (including all trips to and from the office). Job includes PTO for the big federal holidays, plus one week of PTO for hourly employees.

When am I working?

When at full-time, KIG’s normal working hours are 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday with an hour for lunch. If needed, there is flexibility on timing, as long as the work gets done. Overtime work is available if desired, and may be requested when you are on-call or during the rare but possible emergency.
