Assistant Pastry Chef
Kalahari Resorts & Conventions is seeking an Assistant Pastry Chef. In this position, you will be responsible for assisting the Pastry Chef in the direction and management of all bake shop operations and associates, assuring the proper preparation of all baked items for the Resort's restaurants, food, and beverage outlets, with a focus on conventions day-to-day pastry production and operations. Must also be able to perform the duties of the Pastry Chef in their absence.
Weekends, evenings, and holiday availability are a must.
Key Responsibilities
- Works with the Executive Pastry Chef to take appropriate action to reduce operating costs without affecting the quality of pastries or service.
- Instruct and train bakery associates on proper procedures and techniques for the creation of attractive, professional pastry items.
- Inspect all bakery items upon completion to ensure they have been prepared correctly and attractively.
- Assist Executive Pastry Chef in scheduling labor as required by anticipated business activity while ensuring that all positions are staffed when and as needed and labor cost objectives are met per management decisions.
What We're Looking For
- We require a background of five years of progressive pastry experience and three years of management experience.
- Basic knowledge of P&L, food cost/inventory management, recipe costing, kitchen sanitation, and food safety regulations.
Nice to Have Skills
- Pastry Arts or Culinary Arts Degree
- Prior experience with Bake shop/pastry production is helpful.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
