Position Details
The Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency (KRESA) is a critical part of Michigan’s education system serving the Greater Kalamazoo region and provides specialized services to schools and communities and optimizes resources by centralizing innovative programs and services. We partner with school districts and the broader community to offer essential programs including early childhood education, special education, career learning, and educator development, ensuring that learners of all ages receive the support they need.
We are currently seeking a Career Connect Campus Assistant Principal of Instruction at the Career Connect Campus (opening in August 2025) in Portage , Michigan.
The essential responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to :
- Support the success of all students, prioritizing opportunity, program representation and supports for all students.
- Demonstrate KRESA’s core values of Collaboration, Innovation, Compassion, Trustworthiness and Respect in the workplace.
- Communicate and collaborate with stakeholders, including families, to promote positive public relations.
- Enhance and support growth and academic achievement of all students.
- Evaluate instructional staff and provide feedback based on 5D Instructional Framework.
- Assist with the development of annual budgets; make recommendations for updating existing equipment; maintain inventory of existing equipment.
- Assist with development of innovative programs; keep abreast of local labor market needs and make recommendations for program expansion or reduction.
- Lead innovation and continuous improvement efforts for instruction, student achievement, culture / climate, and student supports.
- Provide support to Campus staff in the integration of IEP accommodations, academic standards, Skills for Success, state technical standards, as well as postsecondary learning outcomes into CTE programs.
- Actively seek business and post-secondary partnership opportunities in order to provide high-quality career experiences.
- Lead and manage curriculum alignment, compliance, and monitoring to state and federal guidelines.
- Lead and manage instructional coaching supports for teachers.
- Manage and oversee Skills for Success virtual course.
- Actively participate in operational management of the Career Connect Campus.
- Use data to help teachers improve classroom instruction by collecting, analyzing, and determining next steps based on formative and summative assessments.
- Identify and provide instructional staff with opportunities for further training and professional development in both pedagogy and industry-related subject matter.
- Provide support to teachers and consultants on academic credit integration.
- Ensure curriculum is relevant to industry needs and aligned to industry-recognized credentials.
- Oversee onboarding of new teachers through cohort model.
- Oversee campus-wide implementation of project-based learning and competency-based grading.
- Monitor the implementation of professional learning in the classroom in coordination with 5D instructional framework.
- Oversee occasional activities on evenings, weekends and summers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Under the direction of, and in collaboration with the Career Connect Campus Principal, the Assistant Principal provides supervision of teachers and staff, collaboration with local district high schools, program management and building leadership, supervision of events, budget management, and overall support for the climate and culture of the Career Connect Campus. Qualified candidates will have 1. Master’s Degree in Career and Technical Education or secondary instruction / educational leadership or a related degree. 2. Valid Michigan Administrator Certification for Secondary Education or the ability to obtain an Administrator permit with MDE and obtain the appropriate certification within 3 years. With experience as an outstanding secondary teacher and administrator and working knowledge and experience with career and technical education, guided pathways, apprenticeships, and middle colleges preferred.
This is an 11 month calendar position in job grade 19 with an annual rate of pay between $93, and $115,
