HSTA BU5 (10 month)
GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of an assigned Vice Principal, the Dean of Students assumes responsibility for student discipline and school activities such as the school Zero Hero school field trips, advises students in various areas, and performs related work as required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
General:
- Processes major behavior referrals for students in grades PreK-12 A, B, C, & D behavior referrals .
- Respond to and support major behavior referrals in PreK-12 A, B, C, & D behavior referrals.
- Respond and support with PreK-12 crisis events as a member of the crisis team.
- Keeps accurate records regarding student and parent contacts.
- Supervises and assists with making parent contact concerning referrals.
- Conferences with students and/or parents regarding referrals; emphasizes behavior modification in interactions with parents.
- Informs staff members of disciplinary actions, provides behavioral support, assists the team in creating behavior modification plans, and monitors progress for referred students.
- Supervises students during lunch, both in the office and on the grounds.
- Supervises extracurricular activities such as Zero Hero and field trips during school hours.
- Gathers information and prepares reports regarding students with behavior challenges.
- Generates quarterly reports regarding student behavior and shares with staff during faculty meetings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
School and Community Relations:
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with students, parents, community members, outside agency personnel, and other interested school stakeholders.
- Promotes positive staff morale and commitment.
- Respect and maintain professional confidentiality.
- Uses appropriate professional channels to communicate personal and professional concerns.
- Maintains student confidentiality.
Professional Obligations:
- Strives to improve daily operations at Kamaile Academy continually.
- Maintains QBS Safety Care certification as a crisis team member.
- Works closely and cooperatively with the administrative team or designee.
Authority and Functions:
Under the direction of an assigned Vice Principal, the Vice Principal shall be responsible for assigning job duties and performing operational functions.
Chain of Command:
Reports directly to the assigned Vice Principal annually regarding the progress toward established yearly goals.
Education and Experience:
- Maintains a valid Hawaii school teaching or school counseling license.
- Master's degree in education.
- Five successful years of school teaching experience.
Position Requirements:
- Knowledge of laws and regulations governing regular, special, and compensatory education.
- Knowledge of school policies regarding interaction with students, parents, and staff members.
- Knowledge of procedures used in site-based leadership.
- Knowledge of positive behavioral support management techniques.
- Ability to implement and enforce student discipline policies.
- Ability to maintain discipline and manage large numbers of students.
- Ability to assume leadership responsibilities and maintain a professional demeanor in all situations.
- Ability to advise students on educational, vocational, and personal issues related to discipline.

Dexterity and physical condition are required to maintain a rigorous work schedule and meet physical and ethical standards.
- Physical standards often involve walking the campus to supervise, encourage, and support student wellness and promote positive staff morale. Also, you must be able to lift at least 40 pounds at a time. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
