JOB SUMMARY:
The Production Supervisor (Heat Treatment Department) is responsible for managing day-to-day manufacturing activities, ensuring the highest levels of efficiency, quality, and safety across a 24/7 shift operation. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Lead and mentor a team of team leads and furnace / induction operators to achieve department goals.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment and keep the team motivated.
- Conduct regular crew performance reviews, remove obstacles, and provide training and development opportunities.
- Responsible for department’s scheduling and timekeeping.
- Ensure the delivery and quality of tools and cold-formed blanks supports the thread roll manufacturing schedule.
- Monitor production on the shop floor and investigate excessive downtime in regards to scheduling, changeovers, furnance maintenance, and staffing issues. Recommend changes to to support continuous improvement.
- Assist in identifying equipment in need of repair and communicates with maintenance on required repairs.
- Monitor production schedules and adjust as needed to address changes in demand or unforeseen circumstances. Looks for trends in to improve SOPs, training, etc.
- Actively participates in projects and on teams related to launches, continuous improvement, installations or upgrades, and waste.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of all processes and equipment in the department and ensures alarms are logged and responded to appropriately.
- Ensure that established policies, rules and regulations, and procedures are followed and standardized across all shifts.
- Identify the root cause of production process non-conformances and ensure corrective actions are implemented; analyze production data and metrics to identify areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with the Sr. Heat Treat Specialist, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Supply Chain Management, Safety, and People & Culture to drive performance improvements in productivity, uptime, safety, and quality.
- Routinely attend shop floor management meetings and audit the quality of parts, ensuring concerns raised are fully investigated.
- Execute a strong staffing plan across all shifts to meet customer demand.
- Maintain a positive presence on the shop floor.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality control, and safety regulations.
- Support root cause analysis as needed.
- Ability to drive process improvements and manage change effectively.
- Physically able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, and reach.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills; ability to talk with all levels of employees.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or material science with metallurgical knowledge preferred.
- Training as a metallurgist preferred.
- Familiar with CQI-9 Heat Treatment Assessment System a plus.
- Advanced certifications (Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, etc.) are a plus.
- Ability to manage people with respect to problem solving personnel issues and assessing training needs.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office tools and manufacturing software (ERP systems, data analysis tools).
- Noise – Laboratory machines.
- Chemicals, oils, acids, sprays, coolants and solvents.
- Noise – heavy machinery – if in plant.
- Noise – vibratory bowls and air feed systems – if in plant.
