The Program Assistant is a professional that assists individuals in acquiring the skills, knowledge and resources they need to secure job training and/or employment. Program Assistants perform a critical role in helping individuals overcome barriers to employment by providing guidance, support, direct services and on-going case management to make informed decisions about their career paths, set and achieve goals, and overcome any obstacles they may face to help them achieve a successful outcome. Program Assistants guide a diverse range of clients including those underemployed, unemployed, or transitioning to new careers.
Reporting to the Workforce Services Coordinator(s), this position develops and implements customized employment plans, provides career and job readiness services, identifies suitable job training programs and authorizes corresponding financial awards under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and/or Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA). Program Assistants are required to make program eligibility and suitability determinations by independently interpreting and applying highly complex technical grant regulations, policies and procedures. This position requires strong communication, organizational, time management and interpersonal skills to effectively engage clients with diverse backgrounds and collaborate with program staff/supervisors. This position has its regular office location in DeKalb, IL. Program Assistants will perform a combination and range of responsibilities, which may include group presentations, supporting operations across various office locations within the local workforce area of Kane, Kendall and DeKalb Counties, initial intake and assessment, career and training service delivery, rapid response activities, quality assurance efforts and special projects that will be dependent on department demands and customer needs.
Qualified applicants will have a bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, social services, education, or a related field, and two years of experience in Business, Education, Human Services, or related area. Applicants should be able to understand, interpret and implement policy and program requirements, which includes possessing problem-solving skills. Experience effectively organizing a broad range of responsibilities is preferred, along with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate an ability to track and maintain customers that yield ideal outcomes.
