Description
The Principal Engineer, Test Labs will have extensive experience in the design, development, and optimization of aerospace test laboratories. This role requires a strong background in aerospace systems and practices, enabling fit for purpose laboratory designs focused on customer needs. The Principal Engineer, Test Labs will be responsible for defining laboratory architectures, facility system interface requirements, and facility equipment and working with other Kaney team members to transition architectural concepts to operational reality.
Major Responsibilities:
- Serve as an architect for the development of new aerospace electric power, system integration and iron bird laboratories for both civil aviation and military aviation customers.
- Develop one-line diagrams for laboratories and work with other Kaney engineers to complete full system schematics and documentation
- Perform detailed analysis of lab systems, including electric power requirements, thermal requirements and electromagnetic compatibility
- Perform power flow calculations, grounding schemes, power components sizing, and layout
- Define and develop lab and personnel safety schemes and fault isolation techniques
- Work closely with other engineering disciplines (mechanical, systems, and software) to integrate lab equipment into lab facilities
- Optimize lab designs for performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness
- Develop and execute test plans to validate laboratory designs and ensure compliance with industry standards and specifications
- Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of design processes, test results, and engineering changes
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other related discipline
- Minimum 15 years of experience in engineering with a significant portion of aerospace and laboratory experience
- Proven track record of leading complex projects and teams
Minimum Competencies:
- Ability to work collaboratively with other Engineers
- Familiarity with rotating equipment, power supplies, cooling carts, instrumentation and data acquisition
- Experience with aerospace standards
- Hands on testing experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- ARP 4754 background
Preferred Competencies:
- Exposure to aircraft systems
- Simulation Experience
- Experience with MATLAB/Simulink
- Experience taking measurements with differential voltage probes, hall-effect current sensors and current transformers
- Experience with Data Acquisition Systems
- Experience with Hardware in the Loop Testing
- Experience in a lab, safely working with voltages greater than 500V
Operational Details / Work Environment:
- Work activities may be performed at company facilities or at the facilities of the company’s customers.
- Work will be performed both in an office environment and in a laboratory environment.
- Travel to customer site may be required.
- PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) may be required in some workspaces.
