at City of Junction City in Junction City, Kansas, United StatesJob Description A successful candidate in this position will supervise and manage all information technology (“IT”) activities for the City of Junction City, Kansas. Under the general direction of the City Manager, the IT Director is responsible for planning, developing policy, oversight, guidance, consultation in the development and operation of the City’s information system, overseeing other IT professionals whether employees or contractors, and diligently work to defend the City’s IT from cyberattacks or recover from cyberattacks. This position plans, directs and / or coordinates activities in areas of electronic data processing, information systems, systems analysis, computer programming, voice and / or data communication systems, security, and disaster recovery. Consequences of error at this level could be significant and may result in the disruption in the operation of the City.Major Areas of Responsibility Meet with department heads, managers, supervisors, vendors, and others to solicit cooperation and resolve problems;Stay abreast of advances in technology;Manage IT projects and oversee the work of staff working on the project;Make recommendations for equipment acquisition by identifying both the budgetary and technological impact on the City’s programs;Develop IT resources, providing for data security and control, strategic computing, and disaster recovery;Direct daily operations of the IT Department, analyzing workflow, establishing priorities, developing standards, and setting deadlines;Evaluate the City’s technology use and needs and recommend improvements, such as hardware and software needs;Manage backup, security, and user help systems;Oversee wired and wireless telephones used by City Departments and Divisions;Oversee and participate in the development, operation, and maintenance of the City’s computer network, including all hardware, operating systems, systems software, installation, maintenance, and recovery;Develop a strategic plan for information technology needs and issues for the city;Oversee the transition to online payment systems;Develop and oversee budget for information technology needs for the city;Staff internal IT user group and solicit needs and address issues as a team;Research, review, recommend, and develop requests for hardware, software, and computer supply purchases as well as appropriate and necessary third-party vendors or contractors;Recommend, coordinate, and assist with scheduling in-house and off-premise computer training;Maintain documentation of the network system;Advise and solve hardware and software issues of the users.Job Scope Other Skills Problem Solving : Independent problem solving is involved in this position.Decision Making : Independent decision making is involved in this position.
