Description
Primarily services the Spanish speaking community by providing high quality library services; plans, coordinates, and facilitates programming; and provides library outreach services at events in the North-East community under the general supervision of the Branch Manager.
This is a full-time nonexempt position with an hourly rate of $20.05, plus excellent benefits . Position is open until filled.
Schedule
Monday - Thursday: 10:30 am - 8 pm
Sunday: 12:30 pm - 5 pm
Note: The schedule is non negotiable.
Location
Northeast Branch: 6000 Wilson Avenue, KCMO, 64123.
Job Duties (Essential Functions)
- Provides reference, information, readers advisory, community referral and ILL (Interlibrary Loan) services to facilitate effective use of library resources: accesses online databases within specified guidelines referring more complex requests to appropriate library staff; instructs patrons in the use of library resources including computer equipment; recommends and retrieves materials in support of customer requests; provides information on community services and events; promotes and accepts requests for materials in circulation or located elsewhere in the system.
- Provides circulation and registration services to assure patrons ready access to library materials: checks materials in and out; issues library cards; collects fees and deposits; clears customer records; explains circulation policies and procedures; makes computer customer inquiries; checks shelves for overdue materials.
- Performs circulation and registration services support tasks to maintain dependable circulation records, enters customer information; processes customers’ reserve requests; resolves discrepancies; resolves customer complaints/staff problems related to circulation and registration services, referring unresolved problems to Branch Manager.
- Creates and assists with delivery of adult and youth programming to Spanish speaking audiences under the guidance of the Branch Manager and in collaboration with library staff and community agencies.
- Provides outreach services in the community in non-library settings.
- Provides notary services to all library patrons.
- Maintains effective, courteous working relationships with all library customers and staff.
- Assists with efforts to maintain the North-East Branch Library’s physical collection.
- Assists in maintenance of computers, fax equipment, and scanners; refers unsolved problems to IS department.
- Performs other related work and undertakes special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to interact successfully with staff and public.
- Demonstrated ability to learn library operations, services, and policies, including computer procedures.
- Uses decision making skills to reflect values-based principles.
- Must be able to access items from shelves which may be overhead or those which may be below waist level. Must be able to work at a counter used for customer interactions.
- Intermediate computer skills.
- Demonstrated ability to follow oral and/or written instructions.
- Ability to understand, speak, and communicate clearly and concisely in English & Spanish is required, additional consideration will be given to individuals that are proficient in any non-English languages spoken in Jackson County, MO including Vietnamese, French, Arabic, and Swahili.
Required Education and Experience
- Full-professional proficiency English/Spanish (speak, read, write).
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Work Environment
Work is performed at the North-East Library Branch. Workspace is shared with co-workers and patrons from a diverse socio-economic community.
