• Reports to the Plaza Customer Services Manager.
• 20 hours per week.
• $16.93 per hour.
• Position open until filled.
Schedule
Monday : 8:30 am - 1:30 pm
Tuesday: 8:30 am - 1:30 pm
Thursday: 8:30 am - 1:30 pm
Sunday: 1 pm - 6 pm

Job Duties (Essential Functions)
- Processes Library materials that have been returned by patrons: empty the book drop, use the Library’s circulation system to route materials in, and sort and accurately reshelf the materials.
- Pulls items from POSH list; processes holds using the AMH.
- Reads shelves for proper order of materials; keeping shelves and area neat and orderly; shifting when necessary.
- Maintains general order and appearance of library; straightens shelves in all areas, clears tables, marks items used.
- Retrieves materials for staff and patrons.
- Completes collection maintenance lists, following proper procedures.
- Maintains effective, courteous working relationships with all library patrons and staff.
- Provides basic circulation and registration services to assure patrons ready access to library materials: Checks materials in and out; issues library cards; collects charges; updates customer records in the computer; verbally explains circulation policies and procedures; makes other computer inquiries; and processes patron requests for reserve items.
- Courteously answers telephone by identifying self and location, and if unable to assist with the request, directs call to the appropriate staff person.
- Performs other related work and undertakes special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Reliable knowledge of the alphabet and numbers and the demonstrated ability to learn filing order in Dewey Decimal classification system.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with fellow employees and the public.
- Demonstrated ability to learn library operations and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to learn AMH processes, and troubleshoot issues, using proper safety regulations.
- Demonstrated basic computer skills with a willingness to learn and keep current with emerging job related technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to follow oral and/or written instructions.
Physical Requirements
- Many duties performed while standing and bending; ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
- Must be able to access materials from shelves which may be overhead or those which may be below waist level.
- Must be able to work at a counter used for customer interactions.
Required Education and Experience
- Minimum 9th grade education, 18 years of age.
- Ability to speak and understand English is required, additional consideration will be given to individuals that are proficient in any non-English languages spoken in Jackson County, MO including Spanish, Vietnamese, French, Arabic, and Swahili.
Work Environment
Work is performed at the Plaza Library Branch. Workspace is shared with co-workers and patrons from a diverse socio-economic community.
