The position (K0238976)
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has an Environmental Health Communication Coordinator opening in Topeka. This position will be with the Bureau of Epidemiology and Public Health Informatics and will have a hybrid schedule. The incumbent in this role will work with program staff and partners to develop work-related projects and products such as needs assessments, surveys, evaluations, communication outputs, reports, factsheets, and data stories.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Develop and share communication materials and messaging, develop and provide educational training, and present environmental health information to diverse groups. This position will develop detailed communication plans and developing targeted outreach campaigns regarding environmental health topics. In addition, the position will participate in multiple content work groups for environmental health and syndromic surveillance. This position will be responsible for maintaining and updating information on the website. This position is responsible for the creation of social media messaging and tracking performance measures related to social media analytics.
This position is responsible for the coordination and collaboration between all stakeholders, assembling and facilitating the technical advisory groups and meetings, and communications with internal and external partners. Collaborate and coordinate on interagency education and outreach strategies regarding environmental health topics for targeted populations. Assist the program staff to develop strategies to turn data into action for public health actions. The position will participate in and work to enhance relationships with external partners such as KAHLD and hospital groups for publicity of topic-specific training sessions and other KSSP resources.

Qualifications
- Education:
- High School, GED
- Licensing & Certification:
- Valid Driver's License - Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver's license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Four years of experience planning, developing, implementing, coordinating and/or providing social or human services to the public or community. Bachelor's degree in health education, public health, biology, psychology or other natural sciences or social services field may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in health education, public health, biology, psychology or other natural sciences or social services field.
- MPH/MS.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as take direction as needed.
- Experience collaborating with community-based organizations.
- Knowledge of social media communication techniques.
- Experience developing communication materials, educational materials, and training.
- Experience with public speaking/community education.
- Six months experience coordinating and/or providing educational outreach to the public.
- Proofreading, editing, attention to detail.
- Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access.
