Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The position (K0243665)

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has an Environmental Health Analyst opening in Topeka. This position is with the Bureau of Epidemiology and Public Health Informatics and will be strictly in office. The incumbent in this role will compile, clean, format, and submit blood lead datasets for quarterly data submissions to the CDC.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Responsible for cleaning and calculating data to develop blood lead indicators and measures for the Kansas Environmental Public Health Tracking Program. Work with Environmental Health programs to compile, clean, format, and submit environmental health data to federal partners as assigned.

Compile, clean, store and analyze specific data sets related to blood lead on a regular basis. Responsible for establishing data quality standards and working closely with data stewards of other programs to ensure all standards are met. Work closely with program staff and applicable partners to ensure accuracy and completeness of data. Complete and track all data requests as assigned that are blood lead-related using a standardized data request form and process. Monitor the data quality and apply continuous quality improvement techniques to increase the quality and availability of blood lead data compiled in various formats. Complete any necessary or ongoing training to continue to stay up-to-date on data management tools and techniques.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in public health, statistics, epidemiology, computer science, mathematics, or engineering or other relevant education.
  • Licensing & Certification:
    • Valid Driver's License - Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver's license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.
  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in public health, statistics, epidemiology, computer science, mathematics, or engineering or other relevant education.
    • One-year experience in data analysis including evaluating, studying or reporting on statistical, economic, health fiscal/budget, legislative, or administrative data.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience working with large databases and performing database administration.
    • Experience with statistical packages such as SPSS, SAS, R, Python.
    • Experience conducting data analyses and applying statistical methodology.
    • Proofreading, editing, attention to detail.
    • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access.
