Job Title: Patient Registration Specialist

Job Function: Responsible for the pre-registration of patient accounts prior to patient visits. Facilitates patient access to healthcare services by verifying insurance coverage. Coordinating referrals between providers and patients. Coordinating completion of new patient paperwork prior to arrival.
Job Qualifications:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- University/college degree, or experience is an asset.
- Familiarity with medical code and health insurance billing recommended.
- Prior experience or one year in a medical clinic, medical records, claims or billing areas preferred.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Patient Information Management:
- Accurately collect and record patient demographic and insurance information.
- Update patient records in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits.
- Obtain referrals as needed.
- Maintain accurate and organized patient files.
Appointment Scheduling:
- Schedule appointments for new patients, considering physician availability and patient preferences.
- Confirm appointments with patients, providing clear instructions and reminders.
- Manage appointment calendars and ensure efficient utilization of resources.
- Assist patients with rescheduling or canceling appointments.
Communication and Customer Service:
- Answer phone calls and respond to patient inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.
- Provide clear and concise information to patients about appointment procedures and expectations.
- Address patient concerns and questions promptly and effectively.
- Collaborate with other healthcare staff to ensure smooth patient flow and coordination of care.
Other Administrative Tasks:
- Prepare patient registration forms and other paperwork.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Skills:
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in using computer systems and electronic health records (EHR)
- Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize workload effectively.
