Teaching certification OR
Bachelor’s degree OR
Minimum of 60 college hours
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Speak, write, read, and comprehend English – Communicate with students, staff and others in English
Punctuality and dependability
Flexibility in the job assignment
The mission of this role :
Act in lieu of the regular classroom teacher and perform the duties as assigned by the Principal/Supervisor.
What success looks like for this role:
- Complete the duties and tasks of the absent teacher.
- Prevent students from leaving the room unless it is absolutely necessary.
- Check the class roll at the time and in the manner designated by the campus.
- Contact the school nurse if a student needs medical attention. Only authorized district employees may administer medication.
- Notify the school office of any serious problems experienced during the day prior to leaving the campus.
- Assume the same responsibilities as a regular classroom teacher for students, equipment, and other assigned materials.
- Follow the lesson plans provided by the teacher as closely as practical and maintain the regular routine of the class.
- Leave a summary of work covered in each class and other information pertinent to the teacher.
Manage classroom behavior to maintain an environment conducive to good learning. - Notify an administrator if additional assistance is needed.
- Abide by the Substitute Teacher handbook.
- Be flexible and willing to cover a different assignment if the campus needs.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines of the campus. Report on time, report for any assigned duty, work through the end of stated sub hours.
Workplace operational environment to include:
Physical demands/Environmental factors: May require standing for long periods of time. Frequent stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment. Mental demands – ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); ability to maintain emotional control under stress
