The Kauai Humane Society (KHS) is seeking a dedicated Maintenance Technician to ensure the safety and optimal functionality of our facilities, including the shelter, thrift store, transportation vehicles, and incinerator. This role is vital in maintaining our physical property and requires a blend of technical knowledge and hands-on skills in various maintenance disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct maintenance across a range of projects, such as:
- Drilling and setting portals in stainless steel animal kennels
- Installing and removing ventilation systems
- Maintaining motors for machines including bone grinding machines and industrial washers/dryers
- Efficiently interpret blueprints for critical installations and repairs
- Supervise preventive maintenance cycles to enhance the longevity of shelter assets
- Evaluate building structures to identify repair or renovation needs
- Maintain the safety of the property's well water system for animal consumption
- Manage waste disposal and recycling initiatives
- Ensure timely servicing and upkeep of KHS vehicles
- Respond to urgent maintenance issues, including during weekends and holidays
- Execute additional duties as assigned
- Proficient in basic to intermediate maintenance skills across electrical, mechanical, construction, landscaping, and plumbing
- Ability to read and understand blueprints
- Strong problem-solving capabilities
- Physical agility to perform demanding tasks, including lifting and carrying objects
- Detail-oriented and reliable work ethic
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid Hawaii Driver's License or an out-of-state license with a clear driving history for at least one year prior to application
- Preferred knowledge in various maintenance disciplines
- Must exhibit comfort and respect around animals of all sizes
