Key Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance tasks for a diverse range of projects, which include drilling and setting portals into stainless steel animal kennels, and the removal or installation of ventilation systems.
- Manage the removal and installation of motors for machinery, including but not limited to the bone grinding machine for pet cremations, electrical generators, and industrial washers/dryers.
- Efficiently read blueprints to oversee the installation of essential systems such as the septic system and well house pump.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards regarding fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and other safety devices.
- Conduct timely preventative maintenance to prolong the life of existing components of the shelter.
- Inspect building structures to identify repairs or renovations needed.
- Maintain the safety of the well water system for animal consumption.
- Oversee waste management and recycling activities, and ensure KHS vehicles are serviced appropriately.
- Respond to urgent situations, including weekends and holidays, as required.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
- Fundamental to intermediate knowledge in electrical, mechanical, construction, landscaping, and plumbing.
- Proven dependability and strong work ethic.
- Attention to detail and the ability to perform maintenance tasks independently.
- Comfort and respect for dogs and cats of all sizes, although direct handling of animals is not mandatory.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid Hawaii driver’s license or valid out-of-state license with a clear driving record for at least one year prior to application.
- Basic knowledge in relevant maintenance areas, with intermediate knowledge preferred.
- Preference given to candidates residing in Kauai or a Hawaiian island who can secure housing within two weeks.
