What are the responsibilities and job description for the Junior Mechanical Technician position at Kaukauna Utilities?
Kaukauna Utilities is looking for a hands-on, mechanically inclined individual to join our Maintenance team as a Junior Mechanical Technician. This is an entry level role where you'll assist in installing, maintaining, and repairing power plant machinery and equipment. From working with motors and hydraulic systems to helping monitor water turbines and generators, you play a key part in keeping our operations running smoothly.
Essential Functions
- Assist in the installation, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining various types of motors, control pumps, electrical and mechanical valves, hydraulic systems, water turbines, and generators.
- Perform rack raking, general housekeeping of structures, dam maintenance (board & pins), tainter gate operations, and building maintenance.
- Operate loader/backhoes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment.
- When necessary, assist outside contractors in the maintenance of various power plant equipment.
- Perform routine lubrication and other services to equipment and machinery as required.
- Prepare and maintain necessary records and reports.
- Occasional travel is required for training purposes.
Required Education & Experience
We're looking for someone with a high school diploma who is either already enrolled or willing to enroll in a Maintenance Mechanic Apprenticeship Program (or equivalent). You should be comfortable working in all kinds of conditions-including cold weather, confined spaces, and elevated structures. A valid Wisconsin driver's license is required, and First Aid and CPR certification will need to be obtained within 90 days of hire. Basic computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Word and Excel, are also helpful.
This position requires physical work, including lifting up to 50 lbs., working at heights, and handling machinery. Protective gear like hard hats, safety glasses, and fall protection will be required. Since we operate in a safety-sensitive environment, compliance with random drug and alcohol testing is mandatory.
