What are the responsibilities and job description for the Trade Compliance Coordinator position at Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A.?
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate Export Operations: Facilitate the end-to-end export process for high-volume and/or complex export transactions for internal/external customers, including processing data through Kawasaki’s systems. Collaborate with various internal departments, 3PLs, freight forwarders and domestic carriers to ensure all export orders are shipped to international markets on time and efficiently. Track, trace and update all export transactions.
- Documentation and Compliance: Prepare and/or upload essential export documentation based on internal/external customer requirements and export compliance. This includes, but is not limited to proforma invoices, invoices, packing lists, Shipper’s Letter of Instructions, BOLs, Dangerous Goods Certificates, MCOs. Ensure compliance with trade regulations, customs requirements and export control laws. Audit international transactions and billing for accuracy before executing payment to the vendors.
- Customer Support: Point of contact for a multitude of internal/external customers and freight forwarders to address inquiries, provide shipping updates and resolve any issues related to export orders. Maintain strong relationships with freight forwarders, 3PLs and transportation providers to ensure accurate and timely delivery of all international cargo. Ability to work across different departments and provide best in class service to our internal/external customers.
- Packing and Labeling Cargo for Export Compliance: Prepare the export documentation and properly pack, mark and label cargo for export, including hazmat labeling for various Kawasaki departments. Act as the point of contact and subject matter expert for Kawasaki departments on proper export packing, labeling and shipping requirements.
- Risk Assessment: Conduct internal audits of all export transactions, including auditing EEI filings to ensure adherence to export compliance.
- Process Improvement: Formulate solutions of potential issues and notify appropriate stakeholders. Maintain export desk procedures based on ongoing modifications to the export processes.
- Continuous Education: Maintain current knowledge of import and export compliance and industry best practices. Cross-train on other job positions within the Import/Export Department.
- Other Import/Export duties, as assigned by management.
Education and Experience:
A bachelor’s degree is preferred, or minimum 2 years related experience and/or training in compliance environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, you must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred)
- Must maintain a valid triple-certification for HazMat shipping: IATA, IMDG and 49CFR
- Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong understanding and knowledge of export regulations, customs procedures and international shipping documentation.
- Strong analytical skills and time management abilities, as well as the ability to manage many priorities and fulfill deadlines
- Work independently within broad guidelines and function effectively under time constraints
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software including Word and Excel.
- Customs Broker’s license and/or completion of Customs broker licensing course is a plus.
- Preferred, but not required to be, a Certified Export Specialist or Certified Custom Specialist.
Hourly Range: $29.00 - $33.00/hr.
