Benefits Eligible Part-Time Benefit Eligible Work Shift Variable - 8 Hour or less Shift (United States of America) Department 7500 Clinical Laboratory Under supervision of the Section Chief, the Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs clinical laboratory testing and assists in promoting a quality of service based on accuracy and timeliness in reporting results. QUALIFICATIONS License /Certification Required: CA Clinical Laboratory Scientist license; or CA Public Health Microbiologist Certification (Micro only) Experience Preferred: Prior lab experience JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Essential Performs any tests in assigned Chemistry, Microbiology, Immunology, Immunohematology or Hematology. Performs automated and manual analysis that requires a complex network of steps and variables. Responsible to file test results in the computer. Operates and maintains clinical laboratory instruments or equipment. Maintains a proper inventory of reagents, controls or media. Routinely follows prescribed procedures for preparation. Evaluates and labels reagents, controls and media. Conducts required quality control and quality improvement procedures. Continually evaluates results of quality control. Maintains continued competence of technical skills and professional image. Collects and prepares human samples for analysis. Performs all functions of a Laboratory Aide in the area of specialty. Prepares, stores, or transports samples. Orients and trains students and new employees. Gives lectures when requested. Provides bench instruction. Additional Implements new methods. Accurately performs comparison studies of precision, accuracy, linearity, cost and suitability on new or existing procedures. Documents results and reports them to the section chief according to conventional scientific formats. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area. Performs other duties as assigned.
