The Designated Institutional officer is responsible for the oversight and administration of the Sponsoring Institution’s ACGME-accredited programs, as well as responsibility for ensuring substantial compliance with the ACGME Institutional, Common and specialty/subspecialty-specific Program Requirements.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential
Demonstrates authority and responsibility for the oversight and administration of the Sponsoring Institution’s programs and responsibility for assuring compliance with ACGME Common, Institutional and Specialty-specific requirements. Monitors program compliance with clinical and educational work hours and supervision. Assures sufficient institutional resources and manages operating budgets. Performs other administrative duties required.
Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC). Serves as a voting member of the GMEC. Serves as the Chair of the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Subcommittee.
Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Reviews and approves all communications prior to submission to/contact with the ACGME. Approves all PLAs and Affiliation Agreements. Completes the annual WebADS institutional update. Monitors Program Director completion of annual program-specific WebADS update. Monitors corrective action plans for ACGME citations, Annual Program Evaluation and Annual Institutional Review findings and ACGME faculty and resident survey issues. Prepares the institution for the CLER visit.
Selection, Eligibility and Promotion of Candidates and Residents. Reviews annually the final rank list for each program prior to submission to NRMP to ensure all ranked candidates meet minimum eligibility requirements. Participates regularly in resident activities and events, including Orientation (annually), and Resident Forum (quarterly). Handles resident grievances as detailed in the “Academic Due Process and Leave Guidelines”.
Monitors and provides oversight of programs to ensure compliance with educational goals and objectives. Conducts regularly scheduled meetings with program leadership & their coordinators Reviews annual ITE performance.
As stated in the GME “Disaster Policy” serves as the liaison between the program and the ACGME. Works with disaster affected programs to reconstitute or reconfigures the educational experience for residents.
Oversees performance of Program Directors (including US, SIM and UME/Street Medicine) and the Director of Graduate Medical Education.
Submits a written annual executive summary of the “Annual Institutional Review” (AIR) to the Governing Body.
Integrate GME into the Quality and Patient Safety initiatives of the Institution.
Provides oversight and monitoring of all physician and group contracts related to Graduate Medical Education.
