Our Team
The Ocean Specialist is responsible for overseeing the full process of importing and exporting goods via ocean freight. This role involves managing logistics from start to finish, collaborating with overseas freight forwarders, customs brokers, ocean carriers, trucking companies, and internal teams to ensure timely, cost-effective, and compliant delivery of goods. The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, have strong communication skills, and possess a comprehensive understanding of import/export regulations and procedures.

Our Team
The Ocean Specialist is responsible for overseeing the full process of importing and exporting goods via ocean freight. This role involves managing logistics from start to finish, collaborating with overseas freight forwarders, customs brokers, ocean carriers, trucking companies, and internal teams to ensure timely, cost-effective, and compliant delivery of goods. The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, have strong communication skills, and possess a comprehensive understanding of import/export regulations and procedures.
What You Will Do
- Manage ocean freight shipments for both imports and exports.
- Track shipments and work closely with carriers to resolve any issues or delays.
- Coordinate with external customers to ensure timely delivery and pick-up of goods.
- Ensure that all required documentation (bills of lading, air waybills, commercial invoices, packing lists, etc.) is accurate and complete.
- Work with customs brokers to ensure compliance with regulations, manage the clearance process for import side. Also handle booking request, AES and shipping instructions filings.
- Stay up to date on changes in import/export regulations and industry best practices.
- Serve as the main point of contact for customers and vendors regarding shipment status, documentation, and any issues during the process.
- Select carriers and negotiate transportation rates based on cost, timing, and shipment requirements.
- Proactively identify and resolve shipping issues (delays, documentation errors, damage, etc.) to ensure smooth operations.
- Monitor shipping costs and optimize transportation expenses without compromising service quality.
- Maintain accurate records of shipping costs and ensure the billing process is correct.
- Resolve discrepancies related to shipping charges or customs-related issues efficiently.
- Experience working in the transportation and/or logistics industry
- Experience working with Ocean imports and exports
- Experience assigning codes for pricing and freight costs
- Experience and knowledge of Incoterms, shipping documents, and international trade regulations.
- Ability to communicate both written and verbally in English and Spanish
- Experience using Magaya
- Experience with Ocean coordination
- Experience with shipping documentation
- Experience proving customer service around transportation/logistics issues
- Experience and familiarity of US customs and clearance
- Experience adhering to FMC regulations, ensure that the tariffs are adhered to in order to maintain compliance with FMC regulations
