Position Overview

Our client, a second-generation family business specializing in automotive timing setting components, is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Purchasing Specialist to join their team in Bedford Park, IL. The ideal candidate will manage the procurement of materials and supplies essential for departmental operations, ensuring cost-efficiency and operational effectiveness. This role requires strong analytical, negotiation, and relationship-building skills, along with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a close-knit team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procurement Management: Oversee the procurement of all materials and supplies required for operations, ensuring timely and cost-effective purchases.
  • Trend Analysis: Conduct trend analyses by reviewing economic and market data to anticipate supply needs.
  • Inventory Process Development: Develop and implement processes to measure inventory levels and determine purchasing needs based on quarterly and annual projections.
  • Negotiation and Supervision: Negotiate pricing, approve orders, and supervise the delivery of all goods and services.
  • Vendor Relationships: Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with vendors to ensure the best pricing, terms, and product quality.
  • Liaison Duties: Act as a key liaison between the purchasing department and management to ensure accurate specifications, quotes, and timely deliveries.
  • Vendor Evaluation: Assess vendor offerings to guarantee quality products are procured at competitive prices and delivered promptly.
  • Documentation Assurance: Ensure all purchasing documents meet established standards and are accurately completed.
  • Price Monitoring: Regularly monitor price histories and update records to reflect any variances.
  • Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate department records, ensuring easy accessibility and compliance with internal policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (preferred)
  • Proven experience as a Purchasing Specialist or in a similar role, preferably within the manufacturing industry
  • Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite (SAGE software experience is a plus)
  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team

Benefits: Health, Dental, Vision (after 60 days), 401K (available after 1st year), PTO (1 week in the 1st year, 2 weeks starting in the 2nd year, with additional PTO earned with seniority)
