Kansas City International Academy (KCIA) is a kindergarten through 8th grade charter school located in the Kansas City Missouri School District. KCIA's focus is creating a world class school with an international focus. Many of KCIA's students are members of families who have immigrated to Kansas City from more than 25 different countries. Approximately 60% of our students are English Language Learners, who speak over 15 different languages. 100% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. KCIA has an extensive, rigorous, and robust K-8 English Language Program. We have highly trained and experienced English language development teachers/specialists equipped to support our students’ language needs. Translators support newcomer students who need enriched language instruction.

About the Position:
English Language Development teachers work to ensure equitable access to instruction for all multilingual learners. The teacher provides focused language instruction while supporting students in content learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides direct language instruction in speaking, listening, reading, and writing to English language learners in accordance with WIDA standards.
- Diagnoses and evaluates student language abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner.
- Monitors student progress and adjusts instruction accordingly.
- Participates in curriculum review and design.
- Employs a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives.
- Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
- Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
- Abides by Missouri statutes, school board policies and regulations.
- Attends meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation
Qualifications:
- Must hold proper teaching certification according to the state of Missouri.
- Excellent understanding of language development and strategies for teaching language skills.
- Must hold a graduate certificate or degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
- Bachelor’s degree in education or related field; master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum three years of experience teaching.
