Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Controls Engineer to lead the commissioning of complex systems that integrate both hardware and software. The ideal candidate will have expertise in designing schematics and control panels, along with experience in PLC programming and motion control. As part of a dynamic team, you will interact directly with customers, ensuring successful project execution and high levels of customer satisfaction. This position offers the opportunity to take on a wide variety of engineering tasks while contributing to project success from design to implementation.
Location:
Work home base will be located in Grand Haven although this position will primarily involve contracted work at local businesses. We are looking for someone in the Muskegon/Grand Haven/Grand Rapids area, but we are open to considering the right candidate in surrounding locations.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the commissioning of complex systems that integrate both hardware and software, ensuring seamless operation.
- Design and develop detailed schematics and control panels for diverse engineering projects.
- Provide recommendations aimed at enhancing productivity, reducing costs, and improving overall customer satisfaction.
- Facilitate technical interchange and knowledge transfer, ensuring effective application of products in system design.
- Handle a full range of standard professional engineering tasks, with a focus on quality, efficiency, and meeting deadlines.
- Tackle complex engineering problems using advanced problem-solving techniques to drive innovative solutions.
- Interact directly with customers on-site, providing expert guidance and ensuring the successful completion of projects.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; an advanced degree is a plus.
- 2-5 years of experience in controls engineering or a related field.
- Skills and Expertise:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for designing schematics and control systems.
- Expertise in Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens PLCs and HMIs.
- Solid understanding of AC drives (both open and closed loop).
- Experience with motion control (servos, steppers, VFDs, indexers, etc.).
- Robotics experience, particularly with Fanuc or ABB robots.
- Exposure to Ethernet IP network design is an advantage.
- Familiarity with machine safety protocols is a plus.
- Personal Traits: A go-getter attitude with a strong self-motivation to meet challenges head-on.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve technical challenges.

- Pay Rate: $40-$50/hr, with additional compensation for overtime and premium work hours.
- Overtime: Paid for hours worked over 40.
