Utility Coordinator Practice Leader
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Utility Coordinator Practice Leader to join our growing team. In this role, you will lead and shape the future of our Utility Coordination practice while managing complex design projects and developing new strong client relationships throughout the Southeast region.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Technical Oversight
Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans, including schedules, budgets, and resource allocation
- Lead project delivery and coordination across multiple design disciplines
- Ensure quality control standards and industry best practices are maintained
- Manage state DOT projects, including proposal preparation, contract management, and billing
- Oversee the Utility Coordination process and design package development using state design standards
Team Leadership & Development
Provide leadership and mentorship to project team membersTrain and mentor team members on surveying best practices and technologiesDrive staff development and establish performance targets within the PracticeWork independently while fostering a collaborative team environmentBusiness Development & Client Relations
Develop and maintain professional relationships with clients throughout the South RegionIdentify and pursue new business opportunities in the SoutheastPrepare written technical proposals and assemble teams to meet client criteriaCollaborate with the marketing team on business development strategiesParticipate in industry conferences as a speaker or panelistServe as primary point of contact for clients and stakeholdersRequired Qualifications
Minimum of 10 years of Utility Coordination experienceCompleted Plan Development Process (PDP) CertificationKnowledge of Bentley Design Modules, particularly OpenRoadsStrong understanding of Design Build projects and proceduresProven experience with state DOT transportation design projectsDemonstrated success in business development and client relationship managementPreferred Qualifications
Professional Engineering License (PE) for designated stateEstablished local client networkExperience presenting at industry conferencesTrack record of successful project delivery in the Southeast regionLeadership Competencies

Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required. Master's degree preferred.Minimum of 10 -15 years of professional experience.Appropriate professional certification preferred.Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Complete Annual Individual Training ProgramPrepare and deliver timely annual employee performance appraisals for assigned staffTrain adequate backup personnel to support your role in your absenceDevelop and maintain customer relationships by soliciting monthly performance feedback, identifying client needs, and identifying the next projectProvide input for the annual business development plan to achieve Oracle sales target to the discipline manager and submit by January 1Work with the Discipline Manager, Regional / Practice Leaders, and the CFO to develop annual budget between September 1 and November 15Answer questions at monthly town hall meetingsComply with all KCI policies and proceduresEnsure practice fulfills ISO compliance requirementsHire and manage work routine of all assigned staff and assign job activities as requiredMeet annual Performance Agreements targetsMeet monthly or more frequently as necessary with the Discipline Manager, Regional / Practice Leader(s), and the CFO to review financial performance, business development activities, and staffingComplete other duties as required / assignedParticipate and contribute to annual leadership meeting(includes PLEP training)Participate in and contribute to applicable regional office forumsRepresent KCI in one technical society and one community organizationReview annual Employee Satisfaction Survey and implement required corrective actionsProvide input to annual market research between June 1 and August 31Provide market trends to the Discipline Manager for the strategic planning sessionsProvide project and client leads to other regional practice leaders to grow their regional practicesReport monthly proposal results to operations managerWith the Discipline Manager, review annual market research between June 1 and August 31Chart and coordinate practice performance resultsDeliver all projects on time and within budget while fully meeting the scopeMeet biweekly or more frequently as necessary with project team on all projects / tasks greater than $50K in feesMeet monthly with clients to review project progressMonitor effective use of equipment and personnelNegotiate scope, schedule, and fee estimates for large and significant projectsOperate within specified (corporate or project) budget parametersPrepare monthly progress reports and invoices for projectsPrepare monthly staff utilization plansProvide input to unbilled work authorizations and forward to the operations managerProvide monthly project updates to project analystsProvide monthly WIP / AR comments to the operations managerProvide technical project and staff oversightProvide weekly new project budget data to project analystsServe as project manager on select projectsDevelop project specific safety plans.Ensure compliance with all Federal, state, and local safety rules and regulationsLI-KH1
