What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgery Coordinator position at KEARNEY EYE INSTITUTE?
Kearney Eye Institute is looking for a full time Surgery Coordinator. We are a growing Ophthalmology office looking for a hardworking and energetic individual to help patients through the surgical process. This position requires both teamwork and individual work to accomplish the goals of the department and surgeons. This position also requires travel to satillite clinics in Grand Island and McCook, and does not require overnight stay. Hours vary depending on the surgeon’s schedule, with some flexibility up to a 40 hour work week. Medical training preferred but not required.
JOB SUMMARY: This individual is responsible for all aspects of pre-operative preparations in order to promote patient confidence in their medical care and to make the surgical experience as smooth as possible.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. High school diploma or equivalent; College degree preferred.
2. Two years’ experience in a surgical specialty practice, preferred but not required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Performs necessary tasks for successful surgical coordination
a. Schedules all patient surgeries and pre-operative appointments, surgical facility, ophthalmologist or technician.
b. Schedules post-operative appointments as appropriate.
c. Arranges patient transportation if necessary.
d. Notifies patient of all scheduled appointments.
e. Prepares surgery folders, orders, and post-op documents.
f. Sends appropriate H&P forms, labs, EKGs, and radiology needs to primary care physician.
g. Collects all pertinent information for upcoming surgery, such as bookings, lens orders, insurance, H&Ps, and signed consent forms, and transfers to surgical facility.
h. Performs A-Scan and other testing as necessary
