Position Overview | The Big Picture
The Product Design Specialist is responsible for designing products, determining pricing, and implementing quality control measures and standards for company products and designs for events. This position works collaboratively with the Purchasing/Pricing and Inventory teams. This position may be responsible for successfully managing the project cycle of event projects and production. The Product Design Specialist reports to and receives direction from the Director of Production and may take direction from the Managing Director.

Essential Duties | What You’ll Do - The Fun Stuff
Collaborates with Director of Production on the development of custom-built designs to include: participating in the design process, developing designs that are structurally safe, developing schematic design drawings, determining and sourcing components for custom-built designs, and developing profitable pricing.
- Collaborates with the CNC Production Lead to translate designs into production files for manufacture.
Develops assembly instructions to document proper transport, assembly, disassembly, and storage of custom designs.
Assesses current custom-built inventory to determine if the design is structurally safe.
Redesigns custom builds as necessary so they are safe, easier to build and produce, and easier to assemble/disassemble and store.
- Assists Sales with pricing for custom builds and provides alternative design choices based upon budget considerations.
Develops and maintains quality standards for custom-built items in conjunction with the Director of Production.
- Collaborates with Department Managers to determine the time and labor required for custom builds.
- Communicates custom build time allotment to Department Managers so custom builds are completed within budget.
- Attends Creative Services meetings as needed and required.

- Completes all safety training as directed and within established timelines.

- Tracks and enters time and assigns hours and tasks to appropriate events and jobs in the time and attendance system.
- Completes all Human Resources and Payroll tasks and notifications through the Employee Self-Service Online Portal on a weekly basis, as directed and within established timelines.
- Assists in other departments as needed and directed.
- May perform other duties as required.
Qualifications | What You Need to Bring
- Proven ability to use Solidworks.
- Proven expert in using CAD. Vectorworks knowledge and experience are a plus but not required.
- Excellent computer skills and Microsoft Office proficiency, particularly Excel.
- Excellent math skills; ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Excellent decision-making, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels.
- Excellent interpersonal, tact and diplomacy, and conflict management skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent ability to deal with pressure, competing demands, and deadlines.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and good follow-up skills.
- Knowledge of event management software is a plus.
- Project management experience is desired.
- Knowledge of event design is helpful.
