Role Description
We are currently looking for an experienced Prototype Fabricator to be responsible for the overall construction and maintenance of testing machines and prototypes in the engineering department. This position will test prototypes to evaluate their performance, durability, and adherence to design specifications and make adjustments as necessary. This role is highly creative and hands-on.
The ideal candidate works well within a diverse team while also being able to operate independently and deliver projects on time and to specification. This candidate should have related manufacturing experience, and be a diligent, determined performer who thinks outside the box to help us find better and more efficient ways to manufacture our products.
Requirements
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
- Build custom prototypes from limited information and work with engineering on construction and iterations not only with speed but also with accuracy
- Assemble parts and components to form a complete prototype, ensuring all parts fit together correctly and function as intended
- Monitor and maintain prototype machines throughout their life cycle
- Prepare and fabricate parts to specifications using lathes, mills, welders, grinders, CNC, and hand tools
- Identify and resolve any issues that arise during the fabrication process, including troubleshooting and repairing equipment
- Work closely with engineers, designers, and other team members to refine and improve prototypes based on feedback and test results
- Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized workspace to ensure a safe working environment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- HS diploma or equivalent required
- Technical or vocational school education; demonstrated long-term professional and/or personal experience will be considered as a substitute
- Comfortable with computers, including Microsoft Office (Excel specifically)
- Ability to read and understand complex engineering drawings
- CNC experience required (training can be provided for the right candidate)
- Strong hands-on skills related to MIG welding, less so for TIG (though must have the capacity to improve)
- Prior experience using milling machine and lathe
- Experience level can be "competent", but must demonstrate the capacity for further growth
- Knowledge and experience with various shop tools and machines, including grinders, CNC, hand tools, etc.
- Demonstrated, hands-on mechanical skills required

WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Standing for 8 hours a day, breaks limited to scheduled meals and rest periods
- A large percentage of work time is spent in a production warehouse where temperatures range from warm to cool and noise levels can be moderate to high
- Hot environment without AC, fans are available in some areas of the building
- Dress code is casual: safety–toed work boots required, no tank tops, no shorts
- All employees are required to wear eye protection while in the shop
COMPENSATION
- Non-Exempt position; Pay range: $20 - $25 an hour
- Final compensation will be determined and based on experience
- This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs, and other considerations permitted by law
- Quarterly bonus option available for most employees
SCHEDULE
- 8-hour day shift, 6:00 am - 2:30 pm with a 30-minute meal period
- Shift is Monday through Friday, some Saturdays may be required
