Currently, we are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Director of Legislative Affairs. The primary role of the position is oversight of the Government Relations office at the federal and state level representing the University before lawmakers and government entities in Washington D.C and in Tallahassee, all of whom rely on the College for timely, trustworthy and honest information.
This position provides an opportunity to lead on public policy issues important to the University and our students, develop verbal and written correspondence to internal and external audiences, develop relationships with various elected officials, staff, business and other trade associations, all while learning the intricacies of the University. The Director will educate on political and policy issues affecting the University and our students.
This position is based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and requires the ability to travel. Qualified candidate should have the following
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Legislative Affairs and Advocacy
• Monitoring legislative and regulatory actions at the state and federal level
• Strategic legislative planning and implementation
• Participating in fundraising and coalition building
• Coordinating Special Events

• Bachelor's degree or graduate degree in political science, communications or business administration, or other related experience
• 3 years of lobbying experience with an organization, experience in a Legislative branch, or other government relations field including political fundraising; any appropriations experience or advocacy work is highly sought
• Integrity and a team player attitude with a proven ability of earning the confidence and trust of colleagues and key constituents
• Commitment to a high quality work product, capability of building partnerships across the College and with government officials, higher education peers and businesses organizations
• Must be flexible, expect frequent business travel and work well in a fast paced environment with competing deadlines
• Have proven ability to operate independently, apply sound judgment, and maintain strict confidentiality
• Must have excellent oral, written, and public speaking skills and have exceptional detail and organizational skills
• Candidate with demonstrated strong performance, capability and interest, but without prior specific job experience in government relations, may be considered, but must show unique potential to succeed in this position and understanding of state and federal governments
