POSITION SUMMARY
The Respite Direct Support Professional provides temporary relief to caregivers by supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). This role focuses on ensuring the individual’s safety, engagement, and well-being while promoting independence and meaningful activities. This position plays a crucial role in supporting families and enhancing the quality of life for individuals with I/DD by providing safe, engaging, and compassionate care.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement, document, and/or summarize programming as indicated in the individualized Person-Centered Plan.
- Provide supervision and companionship to individuals with I/DD.
- Plan and implement age-appropriate activities, including recreational outings, indoor games, and community involvement.
- Ensure a safe and supportive environment by monitoring behaviors and responding to needs effectively.
- Communicate effectively with family members, guardians, and supervisors regarding any concerns, progress, or incidents.
- Encourage independence by assisting with skill-building activities, communication, and appropriate social interactions.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Experience working with individuals with I/DD preferred.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Patience, empathy, and commitment to supporting individuals with diverse needs and their families.
