Purpose:
We are seeking a Personal Injury Paralegal to join our growing team. This individual will play a critical role in case development, client communication, and overall case management in litigated cases and pre-suit cases. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, customer-focused, and empathetic, with a strong ability to manage multiple cases in a fast-paced environment.
This position requires on-site presence at our office in Chicago. The salary range is a base of $63,000 - $75,000 per year, with bonus incentives and benefits available.
Key Responsibilities:
- Client Communication & Support
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing regular status updates and providing support throughout the lifecycle of their case.
- Guide clients through the legal process from intake to settlement or trial, ensuring they understand the case status and next steps.
- Case Management & Organization
- Manage a high-volume caseload, maintaining organized, up-to-date case files in both physical and digital formats.
- Handle all aspects of case preparation, from intake to closing, including document gathering, client updates, and attorney communication.
- Medical Records & Documentation
- Order and track medical records from healthcare providers, ensuring all necessary documents are obtained to support injury claims.
- Coordinate with medical providers to ensure proper treatment documentation is secured and presented.
- Collect and organize evidence and documents to support liability claims and injury details.
- Negotiations & Settlements
- Assist attorneys in negotiating settlements with insurance companies, advocating for the client’s best interests.
- Negotiate reductions on outstanding medical bills and liens from providers.
- Prepare comprehensive demand packages, compiling all necessary documents for submission to insurance carriers.
- Collaboration with Legal Team
- Work directly with attorneys, presenting case synopses and ensuring they have all necessary materials to advance each case.
- Collaborate with other case managers, paralegals, and legal assistants to ensure seamless support of each case.
- Insurance & Healthcare Provider Communication
- Interact with insurance carriers and healthcare providers to verify account balances, process claims, and settle case payments.
- Maintain consistent follow-up with clients regarding treatment status and case progress.
- Litigation Duties
- Administratively manage all phases of litigation, including pleadings, motion practice, discovery, trial, and appellate procedure
- Assist with the preparation, filing, and organization of pleadings, briefs, appeals, and other legal documents using Microsoft Word, CM/ECF, and other systems.
- Conduct factual and legal research using Westlaw and other courses to organize for attorney use.
- Cite-check legal documents to confirm citations and authorities to Bluebook standards, Shepardize authorities, and verify the accuracy of quoted material and cited exhibits.
- Organize and maintain case files, pleadings, expert materials, attorney notebooks, and other documents in hard copy and on electronic case management systems.
- Implement and manage organizational systems to maintain case calendars, pleadings, correspondence, and related case documents using firm software.
- Communicate with courts, outside counsel, clients, experts, and vendors when necessary.
Skills:
- Excellent negotiation skills and ability to communicate effectively with insurance adjusters, clients, and healthcare providers.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple cases, deadlines, and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive client relationships.
- High attention to detail and ability to maintain organized case records and documents.
- Proficiency in legal case management software, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to maintain a thorough understanding of rules and procedures for various federal and state jurisdictions.
- Skilled in managing litigation in multiple jurisdictions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
- 5 years of experience as a Personal Injury Paralegal role preferred.
- Experience in a high-volume personal injury practice is highly preferred.
- Experience with courts’ CM/ECF systems, PACER, Bluebook, and Westlaw preferred.
- ABA-approved Paralegal Certificate preferred.
