Production Quality Supervisor Job Overview
The Production Quality Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the quality control operations of a team, ensuring products meet the required standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. This role involves supervising a team of quality assurance staff, implementing quality control procedures, performing audits, and collaborating with other departments to continuously improve processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Supervision:
- Supervise and Lead the QA Teams: Supervise and lead the QA teams, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure their professional growth and complete understanding and comprehension of AQL principles (how to use, when to apply).
- Schedule and Allocate Resources: Schedule and effectively allocate resources effectively to meet project deadlines and quality standards such as creating and executing REWORK plans, addressing HOLD items and mitigate potential risks during production.
- Conduct Performance Evaluations: Conduct periodic performance evaluations against metrics and provide constructive feedback to team members to ensure solid growth trajectory.
Quality Control & Compliance:
- Oversight of Quality Standards: Oversee the development, implementation, and enforcement of quality standards and procedures for all shifts and team members.
- Verify Product Specifications: Verify all CTQ's; fill weights, lot codes, label integrity, and packaging are within specifications. Verify product appearance is acceptable per standard.
- Perform Regular Quality Checks: Perform regular quality checks such as 1st article inspection, end of line inspection, and hourly checks are performed correctly by team members, as well as assist in maintaining program integrity of FDA & ISO compliance while adhering to company policies, industry regulations, and safety standards.
- Identify Areas of Improvement: Identify areas of improvement and work with production teams to resolve quality-related issues.
Process Improvement:
- Collaborate with Departments: Collaborate with other departments, including production and engineering, to optimize quality processes and identify cost-effective improvements.
- Lead Corrective Actions: Lead and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to address product non-conformities or operational inefficiencies.
- Provide Disposition: Provide disposition of HOLD and CAPA activities.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain Accurate Records: Maintain accurate records of inspections, audits, and corrective actions.
- Generate Reports: Generate and present detailed reports on quality metrics, trends, and incidents to leadership.
Training & Development:
- Train Employees: Train, mentor, and coach employees on quality standards, inspection techniques, and the use of QA tools and equipment.
- Lead Continuous Improvement: Lead continuous improvement initiatives and encourage a culture of quality throughout the organization.
Risk Management:
- Identify Potential Risks: Identify potential risks in the quality process and assist in developing strategies to mitigate them.
- Handle Customer Complaints: Handle and investigate customer complaints or product defects, coordinating with other departments for resolution.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor's degree in Quality Assurance, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Proven Experience: Proven experience (typically 5 years) in quality assurance or quality control, with at least 3 year in a supervisory role.
- Experience in Personal Care Products: Experience in personal care product preferred.
- In-Depth Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of quality assurance methodologies, regulatory requirements (such as ISO, GMP), and industry best practices.
- Leadership Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Exceptional People Skills: Exceptional people skills and a quality approach.
- Proficient in QA Software: Proficient in using QA software, tools, and systems (e.g., SPC, ERP systems).
- Attention to Detail: Attention to detail, logical, methodical problem-solving abilities.
- Certification: Certification in Quality related disciplines (e.g., Six Sigma, AQL, ISO 9001) is a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Manufacturing Environment: The QA Supervisor may be required to work in a manufacturing environment, which can involve exposure to noise, machinery, and other operational conditions.
