Kelly Government Solutions is seeking an individual to work as a Cancer Communications Specialist at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in Rockville, MD. Role is estimated to support a hybrid work arrangement that includes on-site work (likely 1 day / week) at the NIH in Rockville, MD.

KEY TASKS

1) Support the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to research and write innovative strategic communication plans to communicate information about scientific research initiatives to ensure that new discoveries are disseminated to key audiences using a variety of print and electronic media platforms.

2) Work with staff and scientists in the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG) at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to research, write, and edit key messages on new scientific publications, press and media releases, research news highlights, NCI fact sheets and fliers, articles for the Division newsletter, responses to inquiries from Congress, the public, the media, communications and roll-out plans, web content, video and podcast scripts, and social media content.

3) Research and design various visual media to include graphics, artwork, and photographs.

4) Coordinate photographic and videographic resources to capture quality imagining and footage for posting to social media and Internet sites with appropriate captions.

5) Develop materials in support of the creation of 'identity' videos about the Division

6) Provide editing, layout guidance, review, and clearance of study newsletters.

7) Work with staff on media training, including the development of media training materials.

8) Respond to and track requests for media interviews with Division experts, publication of scientific manuscripts and participation of at key scientific meetings.

9) Provide assistance with liaison activities to other components of NCI, including the Office of Communications and Public Liaison, Office of Congressional and Government Relations, Office of Advocacy Relations, and other research Divisions.

10) Monitor the effectiveness of media campaigns through traditional and social media channels, assess results and report findings.

11) Perform website administration functions related to updating content and design and managing site settings and security protocols

12) Meet with internal and external stakeholders to identify communications gaps and collaboration opportunities to increase visibility of the program.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

1) Master's Degree in Biology, Public Health, or science-related discipline

2) Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills to translate information about advances in health, research, medicine, or scientific areas to various audiences

3) Demonstrated experience writing and editing scientific communications materials such as press and media releases, research summaries, news articles, web content, video and podcast scripts, and social media content

4) Experience with Canva, Drupal content management system, and related software to generate and organize content for various media platforms.
