POSITION: Veteran Outreach Specialist (VOS)
DEPARTMENT: Veterans Assistance Commission of Kendall County
WORK SCHEDULE: 8:00 AM- 4:00PM
STATUS: Full- Time, Starting Salary ($47,000.00 - $55,000.00, Exempt)

The Veteran Outreach Specialist is responsible for increasing community awareness of the services that are provided by Veterans Assistance Commission. The goal will be to enhance outreach methods to maximize the growth of Veterans Assistance Commission of Kendall County.
DUTIES:
Must have great communication skills. Must work cohesively with others. Be able to conduct research and plan Community Events to raise awareness of our organization. Be able to present interactive presentations that engages local potential clients and businesses.
Assists eligible veterans with the procurement and proper completion of federal benefit application forms and researches and determines applicable laws, eligibility requirements, and claim status as needed.
Maintains current knowledge of resources available to veterans, changes to the Veteran Assistance Commission and be able to interpret the various documents of the Veteran Assistance Commission.
Must have skill in public relations, marketing, and local media techniques. Must be able to develop programs that are tailored to the appropriate audience. The ideal candidate will analysis and evaluate the current practices of outreach to develop a more efficient way to operate community outreach activities. The purpose will be to promote a better understanding of and awareness of the missions and goal of Veterans Assistance Commission of Kendall County.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

- High school diploma or GED.
- Thorough knowledge of state and federal benefits programs applicable to veterans.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of department information and records according to state, federal, and office policy.
- Ability to comply with all employer and department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, confidentiality, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, veterans and their dependents, veterans’ organizations, and members of the general public in a courteous and tactful manner, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.
- Ability to occasionally work extended hours, holidays, weekends, and travel out of town, occasionally overnight, to attend conferences.
- Possession of valid Illinois driver’s license and a demonstrated safe driving record.
