What are the responsibilities and job description for the Master Mechanic position at Kendall Farms LP?
The Master Mechanic at our farm plays an essential role in maintaining and repairing a wide range of vehicles, machinery, and equipment critical to daily operations. This includes diagnosing and resolving mechanical issues, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring all systems are operational and compliant with safety standards. Strong communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail are essential to coordinate with multiple departments and maintain accurate records. The work environment includes a workshop and various other outdoor settings.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
- Perform daily and weekly equipment inspections to ensure everything is in good working condition, promptly reporting any issues to keep operations running smoothly.
- Follow preventative maintenance schedules that align with the changing needs of farm operations throughout the seasons.
- Perform routine services such as mounting tires, oil changes, greasing wear points, conducting visual inspections for leaks, tire conditions, and other common issues.
- Maintain and repair a wide range of equipment, including power tools, two-cycle and four-cycle gas engines, solar power systems, water pumps, auto water filters, sulfur burners, electric motors, HVAC systems, automated production lines, and heavy equipment (wheel loaders, off-road dump trucks, backhoes, etc).
- Service and repair vehicles such as passenger cars, pickup trucks, trailers, medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks, ATVs, chemical spray rigs, and delivery trucks with reefer units.
- Maintain standalone generators and work with electrical power distribution systems
- Supervise an assistant mechanic, overseeing tasks such as small equipment repairs, part replacement, and diagnostics.
- Coordinate maintenance requirements and resolutions across departments and communicate outcomes professionally.
- Maintain an inventory of equipment and parts, order consumables, track deliveries, and ensure the shop is stocked with required supplies.
- Repair and rebuild parts when possible to minimize unnecessary purchases and provide accurate part and labor estimates.
- Maintain detailed maintenance records for trucks, motor vehicles, and heavy equipment.
- Ensure hazardous materials are removed every 180 days in compliance with California health and safety codes; maintain records and prepare for hazmat, AWM, and stormwater regulation inspections.
