General Description:
The Yard Supervisor is directly responsible for the day-to-day operations of both the Log Yard & Lumber Yard at the Grantham NH Location. Safety performance, effective planning, delegating, coordinating and decision making onsite with the support of the Sawmill Manager to attain desirable production and efficiency results are key components of this position. The Yard Supervisor will support Human Resources (HR) in the hiring process for yard personnel while promoting employee education as needed throughout the department.
Responsibilities:
- Time and Attendance – Coordinate with Sawmill Manager and Procurement Manager to ensure proper support and coverage to meet the yards daily needs and balance employee’s PTO with coverage. Ensure proper coverage meets seasonal demands when log volume is increased, and efficiently manage hours and overtime when log demand is reduced.
- Develop, maintain, and manage the daily truck schedule – with operators and Field Clerk - based upon sales forecasts and demands to balance incoming and outgoing logs and outgoing lumber.
- Lead morning huddles to set daily expectations for Safety, Quality, Hot Topics, Production and efficiency
- Work with site leadership and direct reports to achieve Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)
- Perform daily Quality Control (QC) on log scaling and Lumber, prioritize First In First Out (FIFO) particularly on stored lumber
- Support sawmill shipping productively with lift operators
- Responsible for coordinating and performing minor maintenance and PMs on yard equipment. Coordinate with maintenance team for more in-depth repairs.
- Responsible to understand how inventory levels are affecting proper storage of incoming and outgoing lumber.
- Revising old and writing new procedures as needed
- Enforcing KLC Policies and procedures while maintaining a positive working environment
- Operating a chain saw to trim products to correct length as needed, and to remove metal found in logs.
- Inventory – perform daily and weekly inventory checks on both log volume and stored lumber. Orchestrate efficient log and lumber storage to maximize capacity and ensure products are rotated in a proper manner.
- Coordinate with byproduct truckers to manage bark, chip, and sawdust inventories. Schedule cleaning out of the bins when changing between hardwood and softwood and vice versa.

- Planning loads, establishing proper loading procedures, and developing culture

- Operating forklifts and log loaders to load and unload trucks, and assisting scalers
- All other tasks as assigned
