Premier non-profit seeks a Transition Support Specialist for one of its vastly growing programs. Pathways Strategic Teaching Center is a year-round comprehensive education and treatment program servicing children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and other related disorders. Founded in 1988 through a collaborative effort between the J. Arthur Trudeau Memorial Center and local parents of children with autism, Pathways is committed to utilizing scientifically validated teaching methodologies to improve the lives of individuals with ASD and their families. Pathways education and treatment strategies are based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. Individually tailored curricula address speech and language, pre-academic and academic skills, daily living and self-care skills, play and social skills, vocational skills, and assessment & treatment of challenging behavior.
As a Transition Support Specialist, you will be responsible for:
- Implementation of behavior analytic educational and treatment programs for transition-age youth (age 14-22) in the classroom and the community under the direction of the Director of Special Education, Clinical Director, Supervising Behavior Analyst, Lead Behavior Analyst, Transition Coordinator, Behavior Analyst, Behavior Specialist, Supervisory Educator, and Lead Behavior Technician
- Collecting data with individual student measurement systems and participating in data management
- Implementing treatment plans with fidelity and managing crisis situations using the designated crisis management system to ensure the safety of the students and staff members
- Providing hands-on training and support to students at a variety of work locations
- Monitoring and evaluating student progress and performance at job sites, as well as participating in ongoing communication with the Transition Coordinator, employers, parents, and IEP team personnel to facilitate long-term employment for students
- Providing on-the-job customized and integrated support to enable students to acquire the skills necessary for competitive employment
- Recognizing the need for accommodations and using the tools and information to provide the accommodations needed to be successful in a vocational/integrated work setting
- Participating as a member of student IEP teams and in daily clinics, attending trainings, and assisting in creating and organizing lesson materials
- Performing all other duties and job assignments as required by Supervisors
Education/ Requirements:
- Minimum of a Teachers Assistant Certification or Associates degree required
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Job coach experience, training, or certification preferred
- Experience working with children in a teaching capacity is preferred
- Experience with evidence-based practices and data collection preferred
- Experience managing problem behavior preferred
- Experience teaching functional daily living skills preferred
- Must be able to learn individualized student programming with an emphasis on Applied Behavior Analytic principles
- Must be able to receive feedback and specific direction from supervisors
- Must hold a valid drivers license, automobile insurance and own the vehicle to be used to provide transportation
