Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will evaluate commercial, residential and public locations to enforce federal, state and county sanitation and environmental health laws to safeguard the public health. This position will serve with our General Sanitation Team and work in multiple environmental health programs. Duties include, but are not limited to, the permitting and inspection of septic systems, drinking water wells, childcare facilities, and adult foster homes, as well as the investigation of sewage and water supply complaints.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health or a related field of science or engineering is required.

Must have knowledge of principles and best practices of Environmental Health Sanitation and county and state Environmental Public Health laws, rules and regulations. Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted Michigan driver's license and have access to transportation in the performance of job duties. Computer literacy, including knowledge of word processing software is required.

Candidates with prior work experience as a Sanitarian or in a position involving similar duties and responsibilities are preferred. Registration as a Sanitarian in the State of Michigan and / or through the National Environmental Health Association is preferred, but not required.

PPO or HMO : 20% of total healthcare premium per month - pretax

HSA - One-time new enrollment County contribution of $1,000 single or $2,000 family,

No charge for WellVision Exam; $20 materials co-pay or up to $60 co-pay for contact fitting with participating doctors

Paid Time Off

Unused paid time off in excess of 120 hours will be added to the employee's reserve sick leave bank up to 182 hours. Hours in excess of 182 will be placed in employee's retirement bonus bank.

Paid Parental Leave

80 hours of paid time off for birth of a child or temporary placement of the child for adoption. Eligible the 1st of the month following date of hire, runs concurrently with FMLA

Probation Period

First 6 months of employment

Shift Differential

1.00 per hour for regularly scheduled shifts beginning at 2 : 00 PM or later

Weekend Differential

1.00 per hour for regularly scheduled shifts beginning at 11 : 00 PM Friday and ending at 7 : 00 AM Monday

Overtime

1 1 / 2 times regular straight-time rate for hours worked in excess of 40 hours per week

365 per credit hour; maximum of 9 credit hours per year (see policy for eligibility)
