What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sanitarian (General) position at Kent County?
The successful candidate will evaluate commercial, residential and public locations to enforce federal, state and county sanitation and environmental health laws to safeguard the public health. This position will serve with our General Sanitation Team and work in multiple environmental health programs. Duties include, but are not limited to, the permitting and inspection of septic systems, drinking water wells, childcare facilities, and adult foster homes, as well as the investigation of sewage and water supply complaints.Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health or a related field of science or engineering is required.
Must have knowledge of principles and best practices of Environmental Health Sanitation and county and state Environmental Public Health laws, rules and regulations. Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted Michigan driver's license and have access to transportation in the performance of job duties. Computer literacy, including knowledge of word processing software is required.
Candidates with prior work experience as a Sanitarian or in a position involving similar duties and responsibilities are preferred. Registration as a Sanitarian in the State of Michigan and/or through the National Environmental Health Association is preferred, but not required.
