Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
This position is responsible for all accounting related activities from general ledger maintenance through to financial statements. This is a hands-on role that requires attention to detail, ability to handle multiple priorities, and solid organization skills. The controller works alongside the Human Resources Manager and the Senior Accountant. Candidates will have demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills and will work across all constituencies to build collaborative and trusting relationships. The position requires strong Excel skills coupled with the need to work with and integrate varied financial information systems. Knowledge of Blackbaud Financial and Raiser’s Edge is a plus.
requirements and responsibilities
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with 3-5 years of experience in accounting with emphasis on not-for-profit.
Oversee the general ledger for timely recording of transactions to ensure accuracy and integrity and adherence to internal controls
Overall general ledger account reconciliation including, but not limited to, accounts receivable, accounts payable, debt, other liabilities and assets
Ensure timely tuition receivables and have the ability to follow up on late or missed payments
Prepare and distribute monthly department reports
Reconcile payroll, benefits, 941’s, tax deposits & other payroll related activities
Reconciliation of investment and endowment accounts
Update monthly cash flow projections
Maintain fixed assets schedules and restricted spending schedules
Weekly reconciliation of gift revenues and reconciliation to Advancement
Serve as primary backup for Human Resources Manager & Senior Accountant
Work with Chief Financial Officer:
Preparing and maintaining annual budgets.
Preparation of annual audits for Finance Operations, 403(b) Retirement plan, and Worker’s Compensation.
Cash flow projection
Additional reporting and projects as required
Other tasks as assigned or needed, consistent with an academic boarding school environment.
