Job Summary:
The Production Manager plans and oversees all production-related aspects of event execution, providing the highest level of Production services to KPA staff, patrons, clients, and visitors.
The Production Manager works both alone and with teams to execute events. At times, they will be required to work alongside and supervise IATSE crews. They receive and administer training and maintain KPA equipment, systems, and theaters. They maintain a working knowledge of all aspects of production: lighting, sound, video, rigging, and staffing. The position requires a high level of precision, a ‘safety first’ mentality and excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Supports the mission, vision, and values of Kentucky Performing Arts while understanding and complying with company expectations, policies, and procedures.
- Adapts well to changing priorities, deadlines, and directions with a positive and open mindset. Communicates clearly, consistently, respectfully, and collaboratively when communicating on behalf of KPA.
- Participates in all appropriate internal and external meetings, as well as professional development programs to maintain competency and increase acumen.
- Effectively manages financial and physical resources to achieve the mission and goals of KPA.
- Assumes a primary role in production planning of events, as assigned.
- Assists with managing personnel, labor and equipment for KPA shows, events, and special projects.
- Works as part of the stage crew on events held in KPA venues and spaces.
- Supervises and assists incoming attractions with audio, video, lighting, staging and projection equipment.
- Stays informed and up to date in industry related services, products, innovation, and trends.
- Maintains all KPA production equipment and supplies in the best possible condition.
- Collaborates with KPA employees, resident groups, and clients to implement and maintain innovative programs and events.
- Trains and supervises full-time, hourly, and call-in employees engaged in operating Production equipment in all KPA venues.
- Ensures all teammates, both internal and external, are informed and up to date with all managed projects and events.
- Communicates with and assists (as needed) outside vendors, contractors, clients, and solicitors.
- Prepares reports and other relevant documents including budgets, and distributes to all relevant and interested parties while maintaining the integrity and security of the materials.
- Assists other KPA employees in fulfilling their responsibilities, as needed.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Essential Physical Responsibilities:
- Ability to effectively communicate in all internal and external relationships for all essential job functions.
- Above average skills in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Specific vision abilities required include: close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to talk or hear in an environment that can be loud and harsh, and environments that are quiet and require quiet, discrete communication.
- Ability to lift and move approximately 50 pounds unassisted with appropriate lifting techniques and/or devices, including pulling ropes with loads of up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time, as well as stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch.
- Ability to climb ladders of all types, operate and work in elevated lifts such as scissor lifts and personnel lifts.
- Ability to comfortably work at heights of up to 100 feet.
- Ability to comfortably push or pull objects that weigh up to 1,000 pounds using proper equipment and procedures. Examples of these items are lighting storage racks, orchestra shell walls and Marley carts.
- Ability to manipulate and properly use hand tools and power tools that are required to operate and maintain equipment, both theatrical and infrastructure.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Must be flexible, self-motivated and dependable; job will require occasional overtime: days, nights, and weekends.
- Minimum of four years of advanced theatrical technical training or the equivalent professional experience.
- Experience as a Production Manager, department head for a production company or performing arts organization.
- Working knowledge of performance grade, professional lighting equipment including tungsten/quartz fixtures, LED fixtures, moving/automated fixtures, dimmers, DMX/ETCNet distribution and controls, system networking and architectural lighting.
- Working knowledge of performance grade professional audio mixing consoles and related gear. Knowledge and experience with Yamaha CL and QL series audio consoles as well as legacy analog consoles.
- Working knowledge of current and historic video projection and A/V equipment.
- Working knowledge of theatrical terms, directions, and safety procedures.
- Knowledge of basic electrical safety and operations. Ability to repair electrical cables, connectors, and devices.
- Experience with organizing and supervising crews.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair lighting, video, and audio cables, including advanced soldering skills to repair multi-pin connectors, cables, and equipment.
- Experience with theatrical rigging, including counterweight systems, chain motors, and automated rigging control systems, preferred.
- Computer competencies in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office Suite (including Teams), Zoom, vMix.
- AutoCAD and/or Vectorworks competency preferred.
- Robust experience with the GrandMA family of consoles and ETC family of consoles preferred.
- ETCNet, Art-Net, sACN, RDM, Meyer Sound Compass, Dante, experience preferred.
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must obtain and maintain a DOT medical card.
